free aspirin & tender sympathy

hahahhahhahahaha!  Isn't this a fun photo I found of my Grandma (on the left) and I think that's her youngest sister beside her.

Free Aspirin & Tender Sympathy

Love that!  We could all use some of either or both of those, huh?!

I was so curious about the origin of the sign that I googled it.  I could only find one that used to be on the Las Vegas Strip but it didn't match my photo - it was on a sign for a Mini Mart at a Union 76 gas station.  I suppose this could be an earlier incarnation???

I found this photo with other pictures of my grandma and her sisters, visiting Salt Lake City, Utah.  I think it was taken in the late fifties to early sixties.

I love the dead grass beneath them and the oscillating sprinkler to the left of the sign post, too funny.  And of course the S&H green stamp sign brings back loads of memories.

Does anyone, miracle or miracles, remember this sign?

Happy Monday!

  3. Sally, Wish I could help on the sign. What a cute picture.Maybe someone out there will know the sign. I get caught up in the details of photos too and google stuff to find out more. Finally got Family Tree Maker to open-it was something to do with my firewall. Anyway my son got it going. Now I'm going to do some playing on it this week. Yeah!!

  6. The sign in your picture was in fact in front of a gas station on Highway 91 southbound in Las Vegas Nevada (we now call it Las Vegas Blvd.) according to the owner at the time it closed to make way for the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino they gave away approximately 3000 aspirin a month. The second picture in the link is it also the same sign in the same place but approximately 20 to 25 years later as you can see Las Vegas had grown up a bit between the two pictures. The sign now resides in the boneyard of the Neon Museum in Las Vegas. I am a volunteer tour guide at the Neon Museum and I have to admit that this is one of my favorite signs in the collection. Getting to see the two pictures posted on your blog is a real treat I will be sharing them with my fellow guides at the neon Museum in case they haven't seen them.

    Thank you
